Effects of green roof damping and configuration on structural seismic response

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering   Pages 1133-1144 doi: 10.1007/s11709-023-0959-9

Abstract: Green roofs are a widely used sustainable feature that improve the environment while providing excellentThe soil of a green roof can serve as a damper to dissipate the energy generated by earthquakes or otherResults of preliminary analysis show that a green roof soil can increase localized damping by 2.5% underroof. The increased damping in the green roof soil is beneficial to the structural performance, i.e., it reduces

Fragility assessment of wood sheathing panels and roof-to-wall connections subjected to wind loading

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2021, Volume 15, Issue 4,   Pages 867-876 doi: 10.1007/s11709-021-0745-5

Abstract: majority of the wind damage resulted from building envelope failure most typically due to the loss of the roofwith a focus on the roofs, fragility analysis can be used to estimate the probability of failure of a roofThus, this paper examines the fragility of specific types of nails, roof-to-wall (RW) connection detailsThe eight fragility models suggest that the safest roof sheathing (RS) is the 1.22 m × 1.22 m sheathing

Longwall Top Coal Caving Method and Its Future in China

Zhao Jingche

Strategic Study of CAE 2001, Volume 3, Issue 4,   Pages 9-16

Abstract:

This paper gives a brief introduction of the longwall top coal caving (LTCC) method which has had a strong impact on China´s coal mining industry since 1980 s.Great contribution to LTCC has been made by Chinese experts including cavability assessment, overlying geological variations on support loading, geotechnological characterization, technique and process for increasing recovery, safety monitering and control, and design and manufacture of high capacity equipments. The future of LTCC method is also predicted.
